The inadvertent expat blogger behind Cedar Plain Work

Hello, I am Sophia
I work as a project manager. I’m a parent. I’m an expat living in Springfield, United States.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What started as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to United States wasn’t in our long-range plan. Like many international moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.
The initial months were challenging — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Cedar Plain Work
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in United States.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experiences from living in United States
- Centered on family life and everyday experiences
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A resource for tourism authorities
- A platform for paid reviews
- An ordinary travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in United States goes on, and the learning journey continues as well. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Springfield or anywhere in United States, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophia
